The Benefits of Metalosate Iron in Plant Nutrition

The most important of all plant cycles may be Photosynthesis, a plant’s ability to turn light into food that allows it to grow. Without proper iron balance photosynthesis is not possible or severely reduced. Studies demonstrated that Iron deficiency in leaves caused photosynthesis to decrease. Protein metabolism and DNA/RNA synthesis also rely heavily on iron.  

For these reasons Iron is one of the most vital micronutrients to a plant, yet many plants are highly susceptible to Iron deficiency. Iron deficiency can also lead to chlorosis, or discoloration of leaves in plants. Citrus trees are some of those plants. A 55 percent reduction of chlorosis in Midknight Citrus Trees was shown by applying Metalosate® Iron. (Holmden & Carlson)  This work in South Africa comprised of three applications of Metalosate Iron combined with organosilicon surfactant were applied at a rate of 54 oz/acre (4 L/ha). Visual observations were made pre- and post- application and a determination was made with respect to the percentage of green vs. chlorotic leaves. Figure 1 summarizes these finding.
