Refrigeration - Performance Gases

Refrigeration

The refrigeration market utilizes numerous different types of specialty gases including Fluorinated Gases (F-Gases) and natural refrigerants. The refrigeration market is evolving due to environmental regulations including the European Union’s EC 842/2006 F-Gas Regulation which protects the environment by reducing emissions of fluorinated greenhouse gases through quantitative limits for the placing on the market of hydrofluorocarbons. An alternative to F-Gases are natural refrigerants. This includes ammonia, propylene, n-butane, and propane which are used as a refrigerant in large industrial processes such as bulk ice making and industrial food processing.

How We Service The Refrigeration Market

Balchem Performance Gases provides a variety of gases to the refrigeration market including natural refrigerants (Ammonia, Propylene) and F-gases. Natural refrigerants are substances that occur directly in nature. The most commonly used natural refrigerants are Ammonia (NH3) and Hydrocarbons (Propane, Isobutane, n-Butane).

Additional Information

These substances were used as refrigerants until the 1930s before fluorinated gases (F-gases) became more common in refrigeration systems. The natural refrigerants have limited impacts to global warming (compared to fluorinated gases). Today, due to the stringent regulations, natural refrigerants are preferred over F-Gases. Balchem services the natural refrigerants market directly or through dealers. Many packaging possibilities are available depending on the customer’s needs. Balchem also provides F-Gases. Physical products are available in different types of packaging.
